So in conclusion, I like signal better because of its way better desktop client, its probably better security (well analysed signal protocol) and its better mass compatibility. While threemas "3colored-dot" mechanic was fun at the beginning, I can observe within myself that if I want to communicate with somebody I don't care that much if he or she is fully verified. With Signal, these groups can be as large as 1,000 people, while with Threema, the limit stands at 256 pax. Threemas unique selling point would be the possibility to use it without a phone number, but in my opinion this can be hindering "for the masses", as a lot of people I know simply like to exchange one phone number and have no interest in juggling with additional IDs. Also, the app cost of threema is a potential blocker for others willing to switch away from WhatsApp. ![]() While WhatsApp web normally works for me, threema Web suffers a lot from connection errors and is, in my humble opinion, just not usable.Īdditionaly signal is open source, while most parts of threema are closed source. It is a real client, while threema has a WhatsApp style web client which connects to your mobile device. As a US-based IT service provider, Signal is also subject to the CLOUD Act, which entitles US authorities to access the service provider’s data. ![]() It can bridge into proprietary ‘walled garden’ systems such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and Discord. Being Matrix-based, Element provides interoperability between traditional siloed apps. However, it guarantees higher anonymity than Signal, as Threema does not require a phone number or an email address to set it up (Signal requires a phone number). ![]() I use both regularly, but if I had to choose it would be signal, mostly for it's desktop client. Element Matrix Services (EMS) provides a SaaS version of Element, with fast performance and enterprise-grade add-ons. You do not need a SIM card to log in The app is business oriented Exports to email Doesnt require account 1 higher rating on the App Store 5vs4.
